Raw Oreo-Style Biscuits

Last updated: 06th Mar 2013 07:57am

This is an adaptation of a Chocolate Brownie recipe I found on an American raw food site (which is why measurements are in cups – sorry), but I found they worked better cut out as biscuits. Don’t expect a crunch, but they’re dark, chocolaty, chewy and hit the sweet spot without flooding your system with refined sugar. You can include other nuts along with the walnuts, I did these with a mixture of walnuts, hazelnuts and Brazils.

  • 1 ½ cup walnuts
  • 8-12 dates depending on size
  • Good pinch sea salt
  • 1/3 cup cacao powder
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tbsp water

  1. Place the nuts in the food processor and process into small chunks
  2. Remove ¼ cup of the nut pieces and keep to one side
  3. Add the salt and continue to process the remaining nuts until finely ground
  4. Add the dates and process until combined (you may need to chop them up a bit with a knife first, as they’re sticky and don’t always work that well from whole in a processor)
  5. Add the cacao, vanilla and water. Process
  6. Add the nut pieces and stir through
  7. Roll or press the ‘dough’ out and cut into desired shape, e.g. with a biscuit cutter
